💡 “Distributed work” tip of the week

Expert of the week: Rebecca Cullum (Leadership and Culture Consultant working with leaders and teams to build innovative and future-focused team culture)

Leadership in a distributed team: Don’t get stuck leading like its 2019:

🗣 Communicate like your life depends on it: Communicate more than you think you need to and allow space for questions and clarification in team meetings.

🤝 Connection is key: Prioritise regular connection points during the week. Find the chat/channel tool that works for your team and role model using it to connect daily.

🗓 Re-think the week: Allocate remote days concentrated on focused work and online meetings; and office days concentrated on socializing, team building, and sharing vision. Don’t accept online meetings on office days!

👀 No ‘one size fits all’: Each team will have different requirements so get input from your team on what they need to do their best work. Create a team agreement and trust them to deliver.

📄 Focus on behaviors: Agree on team behaviors and document them to provide the basis for development and mentoring conversations. This is especially useful for new and younger team members.

💡 Allow space for new ideas: We are just at the start of this new way of working and there is so much unexplored territory. Stay open to new ways of working and new tools.

Sick of meetings? Microsoft’s new AI assistant can attend them for you.

Starting November 1st, 2023, Microsoft will embed a ChatGPT-style AI assistant, into its office apps.

Microsoft 365 Copilot can summarise meetings held in Teams for those who chose not to attend them.

But it can do more:

  • draft follow-up emails

  • create Word documents

  • create spreadsheet graphs

  • create PowerPoint presentations

And all of that in just moments.
