Wait, AI is Eating Management First?
Anthropic's move changes everything
Aloha,
Just dragged myself out of the ocean after a surf session - my arms feel like jelly, but I had to write this. Between Anthropic teaching AI to control computers yesterday and hitting a major milestone with the AI Maturity Index, the future of work is changing faster than my post-surf heartbeat.
Let’s dive into today’s edition! 🚀
AI Maturity Index meets Paddle Launchpad
What started as a research project to measure AI adoption has evolved into creating a fully-fledged tool that allows individuals and companies to measure their own AI adoption.
In fantastic news, we've been accepted into Paddle's Launchpad Program incl. Google for AI Startups program, where we join 74 other founders who are growing and scaling their AI solutions into thriving software businesses. 🙌
As a sneak peek, here's a preview of the personalized reports we started shipping to early participants:

The AI Manager Will See You Now: Why Anthropic's Latest Move Changes Everything About How We Work
Now it’s time for the news of the week (or year?)…
Everyone's watching for AI to replace entry-level workers, but they're missing the bigger story. Yesterday, Anthropic showed us the real first target: middle management. Their AI assistant Claude can now control computers just like a human would, and the implications are far bigger than most realize.
Here's why this matters: We've been thinking about AI wrong. The narrative has been about replacing individual tasks – writing code, creating images, drafting emails. But Anthropic just showed us something different: AI that can coordinate across tools and workflows, the core function of management.
The Technical Breakthrough
Let's start with the numbers: Claude achieved a 14.9% success rate in using computers like humans do, nearly doubling the previous best of 7.8%. When given more steps, that rises to 22%.
These numbers might seem low, but they're missing the point. What's revolutionary isn't the success rate – it's that AI can now use regular software, the same tools humans use every day. No more specialized AI interfaces. No more fragmented workflows.
WIRED got a preview of what this looks like: Claude planning a sunrise viewing at Golden Gate Bridge. It opened Chrome, searched for optimal times, created a calendar event, and prepared to share it. Sound simple? That's exactly why it's profound. It's not doing one specialized task – it's coordinating across tools, just like a manager would.
The Market Reality
This isn't happening in a vacuum. Microsoft just announced their own AI agent plans. Amazon has poured billions into Anthropic. The race is on, and it's not just about technology – it's about who controls the future of work coordination.
What we're seeing is the emergence of a new enterprise software category: AI Management Infrastructure. The prize? The massive middle management market that's been largely untouched by automation.
Some companies are already moving. Replit is using Claude to autonomously verify code during development. Canva is exploring AI-powered design workflow coordination. These aren't just automation tools – they're AI systems that coordinate complex workflows across teams and tools.
But here's what's really interesting: These early adopters aren't replacing managers. They're creating a new organizational layer where AI handles coordination while humans focus on judgment and strategy.
The New AI Stack
What's emerging looks like this:
- Strategic Layer (Human): Vision, relationships, complex decisions
- Coordination Layer (AI): Process management, follow-ups, information flow
- Execution Layer (Human + AI): Specialized work with AI augmentation
This isn't about AI replacing managers – it's about transforming what management means. The managers who thrive will be those who learn to orchestrate AI coordinators, not those who cling to traditional coordination tasks.
Anthropic is being careful here, and for good reason. They're retaining screenshots for 30 days. They've built safeguards against misuse. They're encouraging starting with low-risk tasks. Even basic actions like scrolling and zooming remain challenging.
But make no mistake: This is just the beginning. Anthropic says they expect rapid progress in coming months. The race is on to build the infrastructure for AI-augmented management.
What It Means For:
Companies: The window to prepare is now. Those who wait to figure out AI-augmented management will fall behind those who start experimenting today.
Managers: Your job isn't going away, but it is transforming. The key skills won't be coordination and follow-up – they'll be strategy and AI orchestration.
Everyone Else: The good news? A lot of bureaucratic friction in organizations might finally get solved. The challenge? Learning to work with AI managers will become a crucial skill.
We're entering a new phase of AI evolution. While everyone's been focused on individual task automation, Anthropic just showed us the real revolution: AI that can coordinate work across tools and teams. It's not perfect yet, but it doesn't need to be. It just needs to be better than our current coordination tools – and it's already heading there.
The question isn't whether AI will transform management, but who will lead that transformation. The race is on.
Sending good vibes your way from Porto Covo 🇵🇹 ,
